MICROMASTER 440s are dignified veterans — and discontinued ones. Spares are drying up, and every fleet running them needs a migration plan, ideally executed before the failures schedule it for you.
What maps and what does not
There is no magic parameter converter that produces a commissioned drive. The honest workflow: extract the functional intent from the MM440 parameter list — control source, setpoint source, ramps, limits, special functions (PID, fixed frequencies, brake control) — and implement that intent freshly on the G120. Siemens provides mapping documentation; treat it as a translation dictionary, not a copy machine. Then run a proper motor identification, which the MM440 era often skipped.
Wiring: check terminal differences (digital input logic, relay contacts), the brake resistor connection, and physical size — G120 PM240-2 modules are compact, but panel cutouts and cable lengths still surprise. Fieldbus: this is the moment to move Profibus stations to Profinet if the plant is heading there anyway; the G120 control unit choice (CU240E-2 PN vs DP variants) locks it.
Fleet strategy
Migrate by opportunity: every planned stop converts one or two drives, a pre-built “conversion kit” per drive size (drive, adapter plate, labeled cables, parameter file) turns each swap into a two-hour job. Keep one refurbished MM440 per size as the bridge spare until its group is extinct.

Can the G120 pretend to be an MM440 to the PLC? Telegram compatibility can be configured close enough that old PLC code often runs unchanged — verify control/status word bit usage rather than assuming.
Is repair of MM440s still viable? Third-party repair exists and buys time; it is a bridge, not a plan.
